VMS Holds 205th Annual Collaborative Meeting in Stowe

The threatening Nor'Easter this weekend did nothing to dim the warm spirit of conviviality and community at the 205th VMS Annual Meeting, hosted in collaboration with the American Academy of Pediatrics Vermont Chapter, Vermont Academy of Family Physicians and the Vermont Psychiatric Association in Stowe at the Topnotch Resort. A chock-full program this weekend offered members multiple learning opportunities, including hearing from a panel of Vermont students who are also advocates for racial justice, LGBTQ recognition and adequate sexual health education. We also heard from a variety of distinguished speakers on meaningful topics including mental health stigma, keeping passion in the practice of medicine and the impact of recreational drugs on youth and families. We hosted a diverse crowd of dignitaries at the 2018 President's Reception and Awards Dinner, including Governor Phil Scott, Senator Phillip Baruth, Representative Chip Conquest and former Speaker of the House Shap Smith. VMS members also elected a new slate of Society officers including: Stephen Leffler, MD (Emergency Medicine, UVMMC) as VMS President, Catherine Schneider, MD (Surgery, Mt. Ascutney) as President-Elect and Simha Ravven (Psychiatry, Brattleboro Retreat) as Vice President. Watch your email for a Green Mountain Physician edition dedicated to the meeting, including award winners, adopted policy resolutions, more photos and more highlights from the weekend. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of this weekend!
