Vermont Medical Society Thanks Governor Scott for Signing Abortion Access Bill

The Governor also took action on Monday to sign H.57, the bill that codifies Vermont’s current practice on abortion. The Vermont Medical Society and the American Academy of Pediatrics Vermont Chapter applauded the Governor’s actions, stating that H.57 protects shared decision making between a patient and her healthcare practitioner by preventing governmental interference in the practice of medicine and allowing healthcare practitioners to provide evidence-based care that aligns with a patient’s goals. Here is the VMS statement:

Vermont Medical Society Thanks Governor Scott for Signing Abortion Access Bill

MONTPELIER – June 11, 2019The Vermont Medical Society and the American Academy of Pediatrics Vermont Chapter applaud the Governor for signing H.57, a law which codifies Vermonter’s current access to reproductive health care.  We also thank the Vermont Legislature for its work when, across the country, laws are being enacted that threaten the ability for women to make their own reproductive choices and prohibit the ability for physicians to participate in providing clinically appropriate and timely medical care. H.57 protects the shared decision making between a patient and her healthcare practitioner by preventing governmental interference and allowing healthcare practitioners to provide the highest quality, evidence-based, compassionate care that aligns with a patient’s goals.

Thank you, Governor Scott, for such a powerful statement in support of the women and families of Vermont, by affirming the right to reproductive health care, including abortion.
