Congressman Peter Welch-D, stood with Planned Parenthood Monday and took part in a press conference urging Vermonters to stand up against the Trump Administration's proposed changes to Title X funding. Advocates and state democratic leaders warned that the proposed changes not only undermine a woman's right to an abortion, they also threaten access to basic health care services for many Vermonters who depend on Planned Parenthood for their care. The proposed changes would halt federal funding for any health care clinician who advises their patient on abortion services or refers them for an abortion. The federal government is currently soliciting comments on the proposed Title X rule change through July 31st. Last week, Vermont Attorney General T.J. Donovan, put a portal on his website in order to encourage all Vermonters to submit comments opposing the change to Title X regulations that would "adversely impact equal access to reproductive healthcare in Vermont."
