Policy Resolutions, Bylaws Changes up for Consideration by VMS Membership Oct. 27

The VMS Council met last week and discussed eight policy resolutions that will now advance to the VMS Annual Membership Meeting, being held October 27th from 9-11:30 am at Topnotch in Stowe, VT. All of the resolutions can now be found by clicking here. The Council voted to support the following resolutions: Wellness of the Physician Workforce; Streamlining Credentialing; Recognizing and Addressing Bias Within the Health Care System; Reduce the Use of Electronic Nicotine Delivery Devices Among Youth; and Tick Borne Illness. The Council also considered, but voted to have a neutral position on and leave for discussion by the full membership three resolutions addressing marijuana and other recreational drugs. Two of the resolutions would lead VMS to adopt a position opposed to the commercial sales of non-medical marijuana while the third would urge the legislature to adopt best practices for regulation of all recreational drugs. Up for vote are also proposed changes to the VMS bylaws that would modernize VMS’ structure by decoupling VMS and county medical society membership. All members are encouraged to read the memo explaining the bylaws changes (found here) and attend the annual membership meeting to vote on the proposed resolutions and bylaws changes. Your opinion is important to us and your voice represents the future of VMS.
