Minutes of the Annual Meeting
March 19, 2004

 

Members Present:  Drs. Barton, Danielson, Deppe, Fassler, Graves, Kalibat, McMains, Novas-Schmidt, Porter, Rubin, Siegel, and Weker; and Ms. Block.


Announcements:  

1. Participation in VPA activities: it was noted that non-member psychiatrists are invited to attend VPA meetings and take part in VPA activities;


Election of Officers:  On behalf of the nominating committee, Dr. Danielson presented the following slate of candidates:

For President-Elect:  Frank Kalibat, M.D.
For Secretary:  Jonathan Weker, M.D.
For Treasurer: David Fassler, M.D.
For Assembly Deputy Representative: Stuart Graves, M.D.

No other nominations were brought forth. The nominating committee's slate of candidates was elected unanimously.


Presidential Address:  Dr. McMains thanked Jessa Block, VPA's administrative executive, for her exemplary service, and members of the Executive Committee.


Honorary Award:  David Fassler, M.D. was recognized for his indefatigable work on behalf of psychiatric patients (especially children and adolescents), the VPA, and the APA. Dr. Deppe gave an oratory testimonial honoring his service.

Business items:

1. VPA Constitution and By-Laws:  Dr. Danielson presented newly revised drafts of the VPA Constitution and By-Laws, undertaken to comply with changes in APA membership categories, ethics committee procedures, and others. The drafts were approved unanimously by the general membership.

Presentation on Disaster Psychiatry:   Lewis Josephson, M.D., Tony Ng, M.D. and Jeff Toorish, communications consultant, presented talks on Disaster Psychiatry.


The meeting was adjourned.
