2003 Founders’ Award
Dr. Lantman was a graduate of the University of Vermont College of Medicine and was devoted to promoting good medical care for all Vermonters. He had a “typical country practice” in his home, said his wife Claire, where patients didn’t need to have an appointment and the doctor made many house calls. As the community grew, Dr. Lantman founded the Thomas Chittenden Health Center in Williston in 1969, a community health center that was the first group practice in the state. While the clinic setting allowed physicians to see more patients, Dr. Lantman continued making house calls through the end of his career. Dr. Lantman shared his experience and expertise with other physicians, both as a clinical professor at the University of Vermont College of Medicine, and as a founding member of the Vermont Program for Quality in Health Care. He was also a charter member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Lantman was also honored by a memorial resolution passed by the American Medical Association’s House of Delegates at its annual meeting on June 18, 2003. |
