The Family Violence Prevention Fund in San Francisco is the leading national organization working on public policy and legislative issues regarding health care and intimate partner violence.

The FVPF has developed model laws to improve the state health care response to domestic violence. If would like a copy of these model laws, please call the Family Violence Prevention Fund at 415/252-8900, and ask to speak to a member of health team. Or e-mail info@endabuse.org

Based on the model laws, the FVPF created a State-By-State Report Card on Health Care Laws and Domestic Violence in order to assess and monitor states’ legislative support for the health care response to intimate partner violence. You can view this at http://endabuse.org/statereport/list.php3 Vermont’s bad grade on this report card results from the fact that there have not been any efforts to address this issue legislatively in Vermont. The Vermont Leadership Team on Health Care and Intimate Partner Violence is planning to do a review of the Vermont statute as part of their statewide plan. If you are interested in participating or have any input, please contact Jessa Block at the Medical Society at jblock@vtmd.org

The FVPF has introduced legislation on these issues at the federal level. You can view the proposed legislation at  http://endabuse.org/programs/display.php3?DocID=314
