National Guidelines for the Health Care Response to Intimate Partner Violence


The recommendations for intimate partner violence screening, assessment, documentation and intervention provided on this web site are based on the excellent clinical guidelines by the American Medical Association and the Family Violence Prevention Fund. Vermont clinicians are encouraged to obtain copies of some of the guidelines for their offices. Both are available online or can be ordered at as hard copies from the organizations’ websites:
